Transforming the self and transforming the world are indivisible. Engaged Buddhism (link to other definitions.doc) asks “how can Buddhism wisdom contribute the social and ecological issues of our time?”

Engaged Buddhism is founded on the belief that genuine practice requires an active involvement in society. It integrates the practice of Buddhism with social actions for a healthy, just and peaceful world. It is the integration of spiritual and social transformation, the joining of inner meditative life and outer activism. It is a spiritual life that has both inner wisdom and integrity as well as compassionate care for the world around us. Engaged Buddhism combines the cultivation of inner peace with active social compassion in a mutually supportive and enriching practice.
